E is for England...

A love letter to the acid house generation, this design captures the moment late 80s rave culture collided with the football terraces and changed English youth culture forever. As ecstasy replaced aggression and warehouse beats echoed louder than terrace chants, a new era emerged — one where lads swapped scraps for all-nighters under strobe lights and baggy fashions became as important as club colours. Taking its name from the original working title for New Order’s “World in Motion” — allegedly shelved by government pressure over its obvious drug references — “E is for England” nods to a Britain caught between Thatcher’s final years, the rise of Madchester and the euphoric escape of the Second Summer of Love. The typography pays homage to the iconic artwork of The Happy Mondays’ “Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches”, blending rave optimism, football casual culture and rebellious northern attitude into one unmistakably English statement piece.
